Groom Does What it takes to have his Grandmother at Wedding

A newly wed couple did what ever it took to make sure one special family member made it to their ceremony.

Matt and Allie were engaged to be married Valentine’s Day weekend. But, once Matt’s Grandmother Betty started having health issues that would prevent her from attending the wedding, he knew right away he had to do something in order to have her there.

"We were approached with about a month to go with the opportunity to hold a wedding in our campus. We have a program called ‘Live a Dream’ where we are engaging our residents and really challenging them in letting us know what their passions are. Part of living at one of our campuses is not letting go of what you had before you came to us so we found the opportunity to host Betty’s grandson wedding. We kind of jumped in with both feet and my staff has been committed to making this wonderful day," said Anthony Perry the Executive Director, Oaks at Bethesda.

Mother of the bride, Debra told us she loves the idea of having the wedding at the Oaks of Bethesda. And she is impressed by the hard-work Matt put in to make this day special for her youngest daughter Allie. She describes this day as a fairy tale.

"I just think he’s wonderful. I mean she hit the jackpot. The love he shows for his mother and for his grandmother is remarkable and so as well for our daughter. I think he’s a wonderful guy," said Debra St. Louis Matthies.

Grandma Betty is thrilled she is able to attend the wedding and she made sure she was front and center for the ceremony.

"It makes you feel important in his life, and in my life too of course," said Grandma Betty. "I guess the important thing is that I love them all very much and I feel loved, so it works out well."

Matt and Allie were honored to have Betty watch them take the next step in life.
