New Tech Academy Student Gallery Walk

Zanesville Middle School New Tech Academy students enhance their education through Project-based learning (PBL). Wednesday, students showed off what they’ve learned during the second annual Gallery Walk.

Students lined the halls of Zanesville Middle School as they presented their educational group projects to parents, faculty, and anyone who attended the Gallery Walk. This method of education is PBL where learning is contextual, creative, and shared.

"(Those who attended), they’re seeing the student project that they’ve finished up and kinda put those content area’s together, they’re seeing all the process from science, language arts, and social studies displayed on one board that shows the integration of the contents come together to create that one project," said ZMS New Tech Academy Assistant Principle and Director, Jamie Starrett.

Students worked together in groups and teachers acted as facilitators, proposing questions to help drive the project and keep students work consistent with the theme "Voices Of The Past". For some students the project wasn’t just educational, it was also a lot of fun.

"It was a lot of fun, it make me come out of a social bubble that I made. It was hard trying to get past conflicts but we got past them and basically got the project done," said 8th grade student, Aaron Toombs.

Aaron wasn’t the only student who put together a successful project. Just one glance around the Gallery Walk and it was easy to see that these students put a lot of work into their projects and enjoyed sharing their findings with anyone who came by.
