Southeastern Medical Center Welcomes New Cancer Physician

Cambridge, OH — OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge has named Dr. Baidehi Maiti, MD, PhD, FACP as its newest cancer physician. Dr. Maiti is now seeing patients, further strengthening the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, comprehensive cancer care close to home for residents of southeast Ohio.
Dr. Maiti is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with more than a decade of clinical experience. She earned her medical degree from Kolkata Medical College and Hospital in 2000, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in 2011, and finished her fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic in 2014. She also holds a PhD from The Ohio State University, where her research focused on cancer signaling pathways. Her clinical specialties include breast cancer care, and she actively participates in clinical trials to bring patients access to the latest treatment advances.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Maiti to our team,” said Wendy Elliott, president of Southeastern Medical Center. “Her depth of expertise, commitment to patients and passion for expanding access to cancer treatment in our region make her an outstanding addition to our team. This is another meaningful step in our ongoing investment in local cancer care for southeast Ohio.”
Dr. Maiti expressed enthusiasm for joining Southeastern Medical Center and the broader OhioHealth system. “I am very excited to join OhioHealth, an organization that shares my commitment to exceptional, patient-centered and accessible cancer care,” she said. “I look forward to collaborating with the surgeons, radiation oncologist, radiologist, APPs, nurses, patient navigators and other hospital associates to continue providing excellent comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer care locally.”
For Dr. Maiti, proximity to care is not simply a logistical concern—it is a clinical one. “Getting a cancer diagnosis is by itself immensely stressful,” she said. “Receiving care close to home allows patients to focus more on their health and less on the stress of long travel.”
Her approach to treatment reflects a philosophy rooted in partnership and compassion. “My goal is to help my patients make the best-informed decision,” she said. “I also strive to ensure that my patients feel supported and empowered and that they feel confident in their partnership with me and my team throughout their cancer journey.”
Dr. Maiti joins a cancer program with deep roots in the community. The John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Cancer Center opened in in the William. L. Baker Family Medical Building on Southeastern Medical Center’s campus in Cambridge, replacing a smaller facility the hospital had operated since 2012. The 12,000-square-foot center was the result of a $12 million project, supported in part by $5 million raised through a community fundraising campaign. The facility features a state-of-the-art linear accelerator for radiation treatments, nine infusion chairs and double the exam room capacity of the previous center.
