Succeeding the Summer Reading Challenge

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As the month of July comes to a close, so does the Muskingum County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge. 

MCLS Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell announced that although the Summer Reading Challenge goal of logging 2.5 million minutes read has already been met, 3 million minutes is in reach before the Beanstack app closes this Friday, one minute before Midnight.  

“We have, as of today, the last time I checked, we’ve read 2,779,530 minutes,” Fennell said. “That would take about 5 years for one person, if they were to read continuously without sleeping. So that’s really and truly an accomplishment. I think it’s so wonderful that we’ve met that goal. So we want to make sure that the people are still reading and still logging, there’s still so many opportunities to participate in Summer Reading. You can log anything you have read and help us reach our new stretch goal.”

To encourage the last minute push, this Friday, the library will be holding last minute reading opportunities across many of their branch locations for participants to log minutes, chase prizes and make that last minute push toward reaching that new, communitywide, 3 million minute goal.

“We have an opportunity here at the John McIntire Library from 3:30 to 5:30 to come on in, make sure you’ve got all of your questions answered, log all of your minutes if you need help with Beanstack. If you haven’t logged anything and you still want to participate in some of these cool raffle prizes or help us reach our new stretch goal of 3 million minutes, that would be a wonderful time to come in and participate in Summer Reading. Now of course, you can stop into any location and we will help you log your minutes and figure out Summer Reading,” Fennell said.

Friday’s festive events will also be taking place at the New Concord and South branch libraries before the Beanstack app ends the logging process later that night.
