Dillon State Park is ready for this years Halloween Spooktacular

NASHPORT, Ohio – This weekend is set to be the busiest and spookiest weekend of the year at Dillon State Park.

The Halloween Spooktacular, sponsored by the Friends of Dillon State Park, kicks off Friday at 3 p.m. Park Naturalist Michael Durst says it takes months of planning and all hands on deck to get the Halloween Spooktacular ready to go and with such a packed schedule, it’s easy to see why.

“So we have all kinds of things including Halloween activities like a pumpkin roll, and pumpkin painting, and a large trick-or-treat through our campground, costume contest. We’ve got naturalist programs like slime making program, cryptid walk, where we talk about some cryptozoological creatures out on the trail. We’ve got food trucks, we’ve got vendors, we’ve got community partners. Just have a whole lot of free fun that is open and welcome for everyone,” Durst said.

Most events start at the camp store with the exception of the Pumpkin Roll which is at the sledding hill in the campground.  The campground is full but you don’t need to be a camper to take part in the Halloween Spooktacular.  According to Durst, his favorite part is how it brings the community together.

“It’s such a great weekend. We expect, typically, thousands of people out here for it. Just seeing everybody kind of engaging in the whole community aspect of everything and getting to enjoy all the family-friendly free activities that are here. It’s just really great, everybody getting into the season for the weekend,” Durst said.

The full schedule for Dillon State Park’s Halloween Spooktacular can be found on their Facebook and Instagram pages. It starts Friday at 3 p.m. with the Spooky Scavenger Hunt and ends on Saturday with the Park After Dark: Cryptid Crawl at 6:30 p.m.
