ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Each Summer the Veterans Appreciation Foundation holds a weekend full of events that pay honor to local military veterans.

Today, the Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution served their annual, veterans, picnic-lunch at the American Legion in downtown Zanesville.

“The veterans picnic, the Daughters of the American Revolution has done a veterans picnic for many years. Like I’m year 17 of being at DAR, we were doing it before I even got here, to my knowledge. And we used to just do it by ourselves and about, I think it was about 8 years ago, we started working with the Veterans Appreciation Foundation so that we are part of the big weekend for veterans. Like we’re the kickoff event today with the lunch. Tomorrow, they have the breakfast at The Barn. There’s the auction and then the golf outing on Sunday. So it just makes for a great weekend for veterans,” DAR Member Jenn Luallen said.

The lunch was a hit with the nearly 100 veterans and their spouses who were in attendance. Veterans Appreciation Foundation President Wayne Clark introduced 97-year-old Lee Martin, the oldest veteran at the event, who explained how much he appreciated being a part of the occasion.

“I can’t explain it but the camaraderie and all the… being with some… all the veterans. Just glad to be with them,” Martin said.

The Veterans Appreciation Activities continue 8 a.m. tomorrow, with Breakfast at The Barn, followed by an afternoon full of an auction and activities before Sunday morning’s 9 a.m. shotgun start at the Green Valley Golf Course.
