Wanda Carmichael

Wanda L. Carmichael, age 87, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Genesis Morrison House, Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born September 8, 1938, in Zanesville, the daughter of Frank W. Carpenter and Audrey V. (Burkhart) Carpenter. She married the late Frank J. Carmichael on March 19, 1966.
Wanda will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her generous heart, and the countless traditions she created that brought laughter and joy to generations.
Wanda was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend whose life was centered around her family, home, and the joy of being together. She created lasting traditions and memories that will continue to be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
Wanda retired from the Ohio Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) in 1990 after 34 years of service. She later retired from AmeriHost in 2000 after 10 years of service, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.
She was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and was actively involved in numerous organizations throughout her life, including the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Telephone Pioneers of America, Communication Workers of America, the Good Samaritan Charity Circle, and Eastside Community Ministry. Through her faith and service, she formed lifelong friendships and generously gave of her time and talents to others.
Wanda also volunteered at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, where she served in multiple capacities, including the information desk, gift shop, and as a transporter. She was known for her kindness, dedication, and willingness to help wherever she was needed.
Wanda was a gifted cook and baker who brought her family together at every gathering. Christmas was especially cherished—everyone looked forward to it, as a goofy hat was required in order to receive a present. If you didn’t wear your hat, there was no gift, and laughter filled the room every year.
She was also famous for her annual Easter egg hunt for her grandchildren. No matter how old they became, everyone eagerly searched for the eggs because Grandma’s eggs were always filled with money! It was one of the many traditions that made time with Grandma so special. Her greatest joy was creating memories that brought her family together, and those traditions will continue to be cherished for generations to come.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially Cinch and Uno, and time spent together around the table was always special. She never missed a Cleveland Indians ballgame and faithfully followed her team through every season.
She loved Daytona Beach and treasured her vacations there. Music was a constant in her life—her radio played every night at bedtime and filled most of her days. She loved to dance, and whenever her favorite songs came on, she rarely passed up the opportunity. She especially enjoyed sweets, including chocolate, Tom’s Chocolate Caramel Marshmallow Fudge ice cream, and her favorite Heath Blizzard treats.
Her beloved Boxer, Frankie, was a very special part of her life. She wanted nothing more than to remain at home with him, honoring her wish to stay there because he was so special to her.
Wanda was a devoted supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never missing their sports. Whether it was a softball field, basketball court, or another sporting event, she was always there cheering them on.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Daffney Geyer; her son, Douglas (Debbie) Geyer; her brother, Stanley (Rosemary) Carpenter; her sister, Connie Jo Wilson and her husband, Lonnie Moore; her grandchildren, Wesley (Misty) Geyer, Andrew (Lacey) Geyer, and Madison Geyer; and her great-grandchildren, Carter, Brynlee, and Maverick Geyer.
