EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Giants left guard Geoff Schwartz has been carted off the field after dislocating his toe late in the second quarter against the Jets.

Schwartz went down after an incomplete pass to Rashad Jennings on Friday night. Trainers immediately came out and examined his right foot, and Schwartz grimaced in pain. A cart was called and he was brought to the locker room.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's volleyball confederation says the trophies for the men's and women's world championships have been stolen in Rio de Janeiro.

The confederation said Friday the two trophies were stolen from the company in charge of transporting them from Sao Paulo to Rio. They were picked up from a truck making a delivery at a shopping mall.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Angels pitcher Garrett Richards underwent surgery on Friday to repair the torn patellar tendon in his left knee.

Richards tweeted a picture of himself on a hospital bed before the surgery, then used social media to announce that the procedure was finished.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico women's soccer coach Kit Vela has been suspended for a week without pay and most of the team is suspended for one game over a hazing incident.

BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox manager John Farrell calls outfielder Rusney Castillo "an exciting, athletic player."

The Cuban defector is expected to show off those talents for Boston soon, perhaps within the next week.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — For Chargers linebacker Manti Te'o, it's another dreaded summer rerun.

The Chargers play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and just like last year, Te'o is skipping the third preseason game with a sprained foot.

This summer the injury is to his left foot. Last year, it was his right. That injury in his rookie year forced him to miss the first three regular-season games and the final three preseason games.
