OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Athletics say they have agreed to a 10-year lease extension to stay in Oakland.

Team owner Lew Wolff said Tuesday that after reviewing several modifications made by the Oakland City Council last week, he has agreed to the terms of the lease to keep the team playing at the O.co Coliseum.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Seven former professional football players are challenging a tentative class action settlement of NFL concussion claims.

Their appeal echoes their previous complaints some players won't be fairly compensated under the settlement, which would cover nearly 20,000 retired players for 65 years.

Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody has granted preliminary approval pending a November fairness hearing. Her approval came after the NFL...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Nothing is more important to the New York Giants' championship chances than protecting Eli Manning.

Nothing is more jumbled in the Giants' lineup as training camp opens than the offensive line.

Not the best formula for success. Of course, it's still only July.

"The Giants have a proud tradition on the offensive line," second-year right tackle Justin Pugh said Tuesday. "There will always be questions...

GRIMES, Iowa (AP) — Chase Elliott's brilliant start in the NASCAR Nationwide series has overshadowed the steady, unspectacular debut of fellow rookie Ty Dillon.

Dillon believes he's finally ready to push Elliott in the standings.

Dillon scored his first top-five finish in 18 races last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. Dillon, driving the No. 3 car his brother Austin piloted to the Nationwide title last season, is 30 points behind Elliott heading into...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have released outside linebacker Larry English, a former first-round pick.

San Diego parted ways with English on Tuesday. He was limited to nine games last year, including five starts in place of Dwight Freeney, because of a pectoral injury he had after sacking Peyton Manning in a loss to Denver.

The Chargers drafted him 16th overall in 2009 and he played in all 16 games as a rookie. He played in just 13 games...

DALLAS (AP) — New Texas coach Charlie Strong prefers not even talking about national championships.

Strong said Tuesday in his first appearance at Big 12 football media days that when he was part of a national title run at Florida, the Gators never discussed going or winning it.

The coach knows the expectations for a premier program like Texas. He just wants his players going out and working every day without having that pressure constantly put on...
