The District Nine Science Day took place at the new Zane State Science and Technology building on Saturday.

More than a hundred students in grades five through 12 competed in the competition. Six counties were represented including Monroe, Washington, Coshoction, Noble, Guernsey and Muskingum. The children's projects were judged on a variety of aspects.

Zane State College hosted its first ever VEX Robotics Competition at the Zane State - OUZ Campus Center.

Nearly 40 teams signed up for the competition and on Saturday more than 25 showed up despite the inclement weather. Zane State President, Paul Brown says the competition is an investment in our future. The event promotes STEM learning and education in the youth.

The Champion Cheer Central Regional Competition was held at John Glenn High School today. There were over 80 cheerleading, dance and all-star teams who competed in hopes of making it to the state level. Cambridge, West Muskingum, New Lexington, and Bishop Rosecrans were among some of the local teams that competed today.

Some hunters took to the woods this weekend, but not the kind you might be thinking of.

The United Kennel Club hosted the 20th Annual Hunting Beagle Nationals at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds. Over 400 dogs participated in the elimination competition. Master of Hounds Dale Prunty said beagles were originally bred for hunting.

Local students had the chance to show off their academic skills Thursday night.

The Business Professionals of America Region 5 competition was held at Mid-East Career and Technology Center in Zanesville. More than 130 students from eight area schools competed in a variety of categories including broadcast news, public speaking, and computer animation.

The Tri-Valley School District held its 23rd Annual Band Classic Saturday evening. It gave 22 area bands an outlet to perform, and the Director of Tri-Valley Bands says the experience is something you can't get in the classroom.

Some students from 16 Ohio high schools are heading to Lake Erie this Monday and Tuesday for the 2010 Ohio Environthon. Two of those high schools happen to have a local connection...Granville and New Lexington High Schools.

The Ohio Environthon will is a competition that tests how much students know about land usage, forestry, wildlife, water sources, and other environmental issues.

Whoever wins will advance to the 2010 Canon Environthon in August at California State University....

Miss Muskingum Valley is preparing for her trip to Mansfield to compete in the Miss Ohio Pageant.

She leaves this Thursday and will get to meet all the other girls competing for the title.

"I'm so excited. I'm definitely anxious. I just kind of want to get the ball rolling and get out there to be with the other girls, but I'm a little nervous, " says Miss Muskingum Valley Heidi Negron.
