 In honor of Earth Day, John M. Hoopingarner, Executive Director and Secretary of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, spoke to rotary this afternoon.

Appointed in 1989, he previously served as legal counsel to the conservancy district for 10 years. This morning he spoke about the district, outdoor recreation, as well as new fee cutbacks for private, commercial and industrial property owners.

More than 700 students had the day off of school to learn about the environment and our local electricity plant.

"Earth Day is an event that the plant looks forward to all year. We plan for this and have 11 different schools that participate in Earth Day. We have 22 activities and 22 busses that are either here on site back in what we call our 40 acre field back here behind the plant," said Angela Larrick, Electrical Processor at AEP.

AEP's Conesville Plant hosted its annual outdoor education day in honor of Earth Day for local fifth and sixth graders.

Cleaning up downtown Zanesville was on the agenda for some local residents on Saturday.

Yes! Muskingum hosted Earth Day on the River at Zane's Landing Park. The organization not only put on a fair where community members could gather to learn more about becoming eco-friendly, but they also had a litter pick-up in the downtown area.

Today is the 40th annual Earth Day celebration. And some area residents got outside to enjoy it.
