This gun season hunters again can help feed the hungry.

Thanks to the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Program, hunters and landowners can donate deer to inspected meat processors and in turn the meat will be donated to organizations that serve the needy.

Hunters are being encouraged to donate their deer meat to those in need.

Each year the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Ministry will take donated deer, have it processed at a reduced price, and then give the venison to local food pantries. Coordinator Robert Daniels said both the meat and funding for processing is needed.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources: Division of Wildlife is teaming up with one volunteer organization once again to provide food to those in need.

It's offering to help pay for the processing costs of the leftover deer meat hunters bring to the "Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry" ministry. That donated venison heads to food banks across the state. More than 120,000 pounds were donated just last year to 44 of Ohio's 88 counties.
