This weekend many pools around the area will open their doors for the summer season.
According to the Red Cross nearly 90% of families with young children will be in the water at some point this summer, which is why it's important to make sure your child is water ready with swim lessons.
"Kids are curious and don't have a fear of water," explained the Muskingum Valley Red Cross' Julie Davis. "That's why we have to have these lesson so they can...

Area volunteers are being thanked for their service.
The Muskingum Valley Red Cross hosted a luncheon for all of its volunteers on Tuesday.

Henderson said the Red Cross would be nothing without its volunteers. She said they help in so many different ways and they are always looking for new recruits.
The Muskingum Valley Red Cross has a new leader at its helm.
Marlene Henderson officially took over the position Thursday and says she is ready to continue the mission of the Red Cross along with some of her own ideas.
"A lot of new fundraising ideas, able to recruit some new volunteers and some new donors and just really keeping the mission out," says Henderson.
Chapter chair Susan McCollister says she is confident Henderson will be able to handle the position...
We may only be seeing light snow showers this weekend, but it won't be too long before heavier snow storms head our way.
When preparing for weather the Red Cross takes a proactive approach to be prepared for any emergency. The Red Cross said the biggest mistake people make is not keeping an eye on the weather.
"They all rush out to the stores so they can get food, salt and shovels, but the big thing is that people don't pay attention to the weather reports and it's that time...
The new year brings changes to both the Muskingum Valley Red Cross and Christ's Table.

A room full of 300 people found that answer out Friday morning at the Muskingum Valley Red Cross' annual Hometown Heroes Breakfast. 12 special individuals were recognized for their service to the community, and there were even a few tear-jerking moments.
While their stories may have been different, they all shared a similar message.
"We get a living by what we get, but we get a life by what we give. We hope...
Fires are on the rise across the area, but the Muskingum Valley Red Cross says that's to be expected. It happens every year because people forget to take precautionary measures before heating their homes.
The staff offer the following guidelines: call a technician to look at your furnice-and if you can't do that at least replace the filter-clean the chimney before your use it, and make sure alternative heating sources aren't plugged into extension cords.
The American Heart Association is changing the way we do CPR.
The small change is going to make a big difference. The Muskingum Valley Red Cross Director of Preparedness and Response Julie Davis said mouth to mouth ventilations will be eliminated from the new CPR training standards for people who witness situations where the patient is not breathing and does not have a pulse. This is called bystander CPR.
"We are eliminating the use of doing ventilations or...
