 Many customers of American Electric Power are waking up Thursday with no power. 

Strongs storms that moved through our area Wednesday into Thursday morning knocked out service to thousands around the state. 

Taking a look at the outage numbers for our area:

With the sub-zero temperatures and more snow on the way, Riesbeck's Store Director, Rich Daugherty, said it was a hectic day.

"A lot of people with the forecast coming up, concerned more about the temperatures than anything," Daugherty explained. "Some of them are worried about power outages so they're in here buying some canned goods in case the power does go out."

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency spent Sunday preparing for potentially dangerous storms.

Muskingum County didn't sustain substantial damage from Sunday night's storm, but that doesn't mean the EMA wasn't staying busy preparing for the worst.  EMA Director Bo Keck says his biggest concern was tracking the storm and keeping in constant contact with the National Weather Service.

It looks like the big storm failed to live up to its billing – at least in our part of the state. Law enforcement agencies in southeastern Ohio report little if any damage from what was sometimes referred to as a potential “derecho” or land hurricane.There were multiple Tornado Warnings and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Wednesday night and Thursday morning, but nothing serious developed. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a few tree limbs down...

Ohio will be getting a 15-million dollar federal grant that will provide more than a thousand jobs intended to clean up hard hit areas from last year's severe wind storms, and Muskingum county is getting a portion of it.

The Southeast Ohio 2-1-1 Call Center saw a spike in calls as a result of the severe storms that moved through the area nearly two weeks ago.

In just one day, the center fielded over 220 calls, nearly quadrupling their normal daily call volume.

Center Manager Audrey Foster said the calls keep coming in.

Some severe storms that ripped through our area Tuesday dropped some heavy rain, featured vibrant lightning and included some power outages. American Electric Power is reporting that as of 1:45 pm there are 346 customers without service in Muskingum County. In Licking County there are 2,178 customers without power and 135 customers lost service in Morgan County.   A-E-P has not announced yet when service will be restored. It is currently severe weather awareness week here in Ohio and with springs arrival, AAA Auto Club wants to remind homeowners to examine their insurance policies.

"It's a good idea to check with your insurance agent now to see how much you would be reimbursed for should storm damaged happen on your home," said Kimberly Schwind with AAA.

Newark residents are dealing with the aftermath of straight line winds that left thousands without electricity.

"All of the sudden it started raining and the windows actually looked black and then I heard this whooshing sound and there was no time for me to get on my feet to even attempt to get to the basement it happened so fast," said Resident Donna Stasel.
