The Fieldhouse To Host Prayer Breakfast For Former Philo Soccer Coach.

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – On March 6 of this year long-time Philo High School boy’s soccer coach Matt Brown lost his battle with throat cancer. Now an effort is underway to help the Brown family.

The Fieldhouse, will host “Garrison’s Goal,” a prayer breakfast this June that will help raise funds for the college education of Brown’s son Garrison, who was just 5-months-old when his father passed. Mick Amicone, the CEO of The Fieldhouse says 100 percent of the profits raised from the event will go into an endowment at the Community Bank that Garrison can draw from when he graduates high school. Amicon said in addition to raising funds, the event will honor the life of Brown.

“The whole event has a faith based theme because that was important to Matt and it was important to his entire family over 18 years,” said Amicone. That’s where he found strength, where he gained wisdom, that he hoped one day would be his legacy. So we’re really excited.”

Brown, who served as Philo’s coach for ten seasons while also teaching at Philo’s middle school, was just 32-years-old when he passed.

According to Amicone the breakfast will take place on The Fieldhouse’s indoor soccer field underneath a banner that reads “MB18.”
The event will feature presentations of sports awards to various community members and will have two guest speakers; Jim Burson and Aaron Bates. Amicone said that he hopes that “Garrison’s Goal” will not be a one-time event.

“We are hoping that this becomes and annual fund so from an endowment standpoint every single year over the 18 years we can keep adding to the Garrison scholarship fund,” said Amicone.

The prayer breakfast is June 3 at 7 a.m. at the Fieldhouse. Tickets are $20 per person or $100 dollars for a table of six, and they can be purchased directly at The Fieldhouse.
