Green Valley Hosts Second Annual Golf Scramble for ZPD K-9 Unit

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Friday, Green Valley Golf Course hosted their second annual golf scramble to raise funds to the Zanesville Police Department’s K-9 Unit. The K-9 Unit is funded entirely by donations and fundraisers like Friday’s. No city money is allocated for the police dogs. Allison Buck, who works as a paralegal for the city of Zanesville said the K-9 Unit serves a critical role in the safety of the city.
“Our K-9’s play such an important part in protecting the city,” said Buck. Everyday they go to work and it’s just a job that they really enjoy doing and they don’t realize it’s dangerous so this is our way of showing and telling them.”
Police dogs were on hand at the golf course to greet the golfers as they showed up. Buck said that at last year’s inaugural golf scramble they raised $8,000. This year’s outing teed off at 9 a.m. and thus far they have received $5,000, but will keep taking in donations into next week.
“We had 14 teams show up to come out and support our golf outing,” said Buck. “It’s our second annual so we’re pretty excited. It’s great because our community, they come together to help each other out, and it’s just a wonderful cause.”
Bucks said that they are already planning for a third annual golf outing. She also said anyone who wishes to donate to the police dogs can write a check to ZPD with “K-9 Unit,” written anywhere on it, and it will go straight to taking care of the police dogs.
