Fieldhouse’s outdoor track nears completion

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local company’s donation has put the Fieldhouse’s plan for a new track two years ahead of schedule.

The Shelly Company donated the asphalt and today began paving on a new fitness trail on the Fieldhouse’s complex. Fieldhouse CEO Mick Amicone said without the donation, the project would cost over $100,000.

“Originally the trail was going to be a packed-gravel loop but now we not only have an eight foot trail instead of a four,” said Amicone. We are now almost big enough to drive a car on it. For our foundation standpoint this donation is absolutely incredible.”

Amicone said the trail can be used by runners, joggers, bikers, and even those in wheelchairs. The new one-third-mile track is part of Amicone’s plan to redevelop the outdoor area at the Fieldhouse.

“We hope to see the trail evolve,” said Amicone. “We hope to add outdoor batting cages. The next step, hopefully within the next year, is to have all five fitness stops on the trail so you’ll be able to exercise and do things you would normally do in an indoor environment, but outdoors.

Amicone hopes the track will be open to the public after the July Fourth holiday and that it would not be possible without help from the Shelly Company, Zembra Bros., and Jan Crawmer Trucking.
