All 'ok' In 7 Vehicle Accident On I 70

NORWICH, Ohio – Ohio State Highway Patrol and Muskingum County EMA said all that were involved in Wednesday’s afternoon crash on I-70 are going to be fine. The accident occurred on I-70 westbound near Norwich.

The accident occurred a little after 5 p.m. when a FedEx semi truck drove off the right side of the highway, through a guardrail, down a ditch, and rolled on it’s right side into the Salt Creek.

The FedEx driver’s accident caused several other vehicles to collide. Muskingum County EMA Deputy Director Jeff Jadwin said all together seven vehicles were involved in the crash.

“We’ve got pickup trucks, box trucks, and semi trucks. There’s a lot of stuff right now,” said Jadwin.

Three people were transported to Genesis and Jadwin said that none of the injuries are serious or life threatening. The driver of the FedEx truck was able to leave the vehicle and walk away from the crash on his own power before being taken to the hospital.

The crash did mean that several gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the creek.

“We’ve got fuel and oil leaking because of the wreck. We have Ohio EPA responding and a clean up crew for each wreck,” said Jadwin. “It’s just going to be a while before the roadway can be opened because of the debris and the location of all the trucks and trailers.”

Ohio State Highway Patrol, New Concord Fire Department, and Perry Township Fire Department responded to the scene. I-70 was re-opened around 12:30 Thursday morning.
