Christ’s Table serves to-go, blocks road to feed hungry

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Christ’s Table has come up with a new way to serve meals to our area’s hungry.
Executive Director Keely Warden says they, along with food pantries and the Muskingum County Hunger Network, will continue serving as drive-thru and walk-up services.
“This is a time when — many people are going to need help that maybe typically did not need help in the past. So call 2-1-1. Find out what those resources are that can help you.”
She says each meal is served in a to-go container and every person will be given hand sanitizer before receiving food.
“We’re practicing the safest practices that we can and the plans are changing everyday but we don’t want to induce panic. We want people to know there’s plenty of food and there’s still plenty of people out there wanting to help. All of the hot meal programs are serving to-go meals. We’re doing them in different manners. It’s not as comfortable as it was in the past but life is not comfortable right now.”
The walk-up meals will be served behind the Christ’s Table building at 28 S. 6th Street. The alleys behind the building will be closed during serving times.
“Here at Christ’s Table, we thought it was really important — during the times that we’re serving, which is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to get a barricade permit and we thank the city for helping us do that. So we can barricade off the alleys. So people could safely walk up, get their meal without a car barreling down through the alley.”
Warden says with local restaurants and other businesses taking an economic hit from COVID-19, it’s important to remember these organizations are available.
