Local Veteran Remembers War Hero Great Uncle

ZANESVILLE, OH – Medal of Honor recipient Ron Rosser of Roseville passed away Wednesday in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee at the age of 90.
Mike DeBolt, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, remembers his great uncle as a story teller when he was young, and eventually he joined the military to be just like him.
“As a younger guy you don’t realize what the Medal of Honor really means, until you know I joined and you know just having that background you know I just wanted to do my best. You know obviously you don’t go in to try to win awards but you know I actually received the Distinguished Service Cross which is one under the Medal of Honor and it would have been pretty cool for both of us to have it you know because it’s pretty rare for two family members to have the Medal of Honor.”
Both DeBolt and Rosser are both in the Ohio Military Hall of Fame of Valor and the Muskingum County Hall of Fame for Veterans. DeBolt wants his great uncle to be remembered for his feats and his generosity.
“You know his generosity, I know that he has two scholarships at Crooksville for kids to go to college. One of two brothers for one scholarship and he has one in his name for every year, two kids get picked for money for school. And just you know all the presidents, I think he’s been to Camp David for the Medal of Honor breakfast every year since President Truman.”
DeBolt will be flying his flag at the Sports Barber at half mast and encourages others to do the same in remembrance of Rosser.
Rosser will be flown into Columbus tomorrow and a procession will escort him home to Crooksville.
Family and friends are invited to pay respects 11:00 am-2:00 pm Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Crooksville High School Gymnasium, 4065 Ceramic Way, Crooksville, OH 43731. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the school.
