Zanesville Municipal Airport Getting Renovated

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The Zanesville Municipal Airport is being repaved and rehabilitated on two of its airstrips through a federal grant and city money.
The funding will come from $45,000 from the city and $855,000 through a grant the city has applied for. Mayor Don Mason hopes that the rehabilitation will be the first step towards expanding the airfield wholly.
“We have two, roughly one mile, runways there. We are actually doing additional scrutiny and studying to see if we can increase at least one of the runaways to about 6,500 feet. Now people might say ‘what’s the difference?’. The difference is that one mile, that it is now, some planes can’t land or take off in bad weather.”, Mason said.
Mayor Mason is hoping that this would lead to economic growth in the area.
“I think one of the goals of the city should be to always use that airport for economic development. Increasing it and increasing the safety of it will help us to attract businesses from the outside who are looking to locate somewhere and want somewhere where they can fly to right away so their executives can visit the site.”, Mason continued.
Mason doesn’t expect the grant funding to be awarded to the city until 2022.
