Zanesville High School Celebrates FFA Week

Zanesville High School Ffa Week 2022

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It’s National FFA Week and Zanesville High School is taking an honorable approach during this year’s celebration.

FFA, which stands for ‘Future Farmers of America’ is a week that is celebrated all over the Country by the several FFA chapters and focuses on agriculture and leadership.

Jessica Stonecypher, Zanesville High School FFA advisor, said they’ve taken the time to remember former FFA student member of Zanesville High School, Rhandi Freitag, who passed away last summer.

“She wanted to be a pediatric nurse so we’ve been making care bags for the nurses at Genesis, some of the pediatric nurses there and they’ve been making some of their own chap sticks and bath bombs, and things for that,” Stonecypher stated. “We’ve also been doing some things on Z-TV which is our Zanesville news  just to get folks in the know about what we’re doing here at FFA. We have a pretty small program right now and we’re just growing.”

“Eat a cupcake, thank a farmer” says Stonecypher as she explained how all the cupcake ingredients that were made in honor of Rhandi Freitag’s birthday today all comes from farmers.

Student FFA members said they grew lettuce and kale at the beginning of the year. They talked about how the FFA program is so important for them.

“It teaches us how to grow our own plants and take care of crops, and stuff like that,” FFA member, Nolan Hittle said.

Another FFA member, Hailee Fell, added how residents keeping the community clean helps them protect their crops.

“And keeping the community clean because that’s a part of it, that’s a big part of it,” Fell said. “Because if it’s not clean then our farms and stuff might be in danger and our food might get contaminated from all the chemicals.”

Stonecypher said that FFA members are able to work with 35 gardens and have their own greenhouse.

Zanesville High School FFA Program is planning to educate the young FFA members at the middle school’s this coming spring about FFA and the importance of agriculture.
