Cumberland Couple Sentenced in Child Endangerment Case

Muskingum County-A Cumberland couple will spend time behind bards for child endangerment and neglect.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office said 45-year-old Kattie Shumaker and 52-year-old David Ellis were both sentenced to six years in prison by Judge Kelly Cottrill.

Authorities said on May 9, 2023, Muskingum County Adult and Child protective services alerted the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office after the victims reported for educational testing with skin rashes and newly developed major physical disabilities.

Authorities visited Shumaker’s residence and found living conditions to be unhealthy.

Officials said that neither victim had received required medical care in a significant amount of time.
