Crawford Named Artist of the Month at the ZAAP Gallery
ZANESVILLE, OH – Monica Crawford has been named Artist of the Month at the ZAAP Gallery.
Crawford describes her art style as contemporary, exploratory, and constantly evolving. She uses different colors of paint and shapes in her works that help to bring out emotions to the viewer.
She said she has always been interested in pursuing art, but life put that passion on hold.
“After working and raising a family for 40 years, I finally had a little more time as I got closer to retirement,” Crawford said. “So I started with making art journals, just a little 5×7 book but being able to apply paint on it, I was like I really love painting! I decided to go on to canvas and the rest is history; now I am almost always painting on canvas or maybe a board, like cradle boards.”
Crawford said she is pleased and enthusiastic about being named the Artist of the Month at the ZAAP Gallery. She said this is a great opportunity for her to share her body of work with the community.
Crawford also provided some words of advice for some younger artists that might be scared to put their work out there.
“First of all, it’s never too late to start. I’ve only been painting for a little over 2 years,” Crawford said. “You just start by putting whatever your media is on paper. So whether that’s paint, colored pencil, charcoal, or just a Bic Pen, just start.”
For the First Friday Art Walk the ZAAP Gallery will have light refreshments and they will also showcase work from over 40 other ZAAP Members.
