Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Coming Up

ZANESVILLE, OH – On Saturday, May 11th, the community will have an opportunity to spread kindness right from their doorstep.
As part of the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, our area mail carriers are doubling as hunger heroes by collecting non-perishable food donations. Simply leave a bag of items like canned goods, pasta, rice, or cereal next to your mailbox before your mail arrives. Mail carriers will collect the items while going on their usual routes.
“A lot of people focus their giving around the holidays. We’re coming up to the mid-year mark, and a lot of food pantries are low on their stock. We have children who are finishing up their school year and starting their summer, so they don’t have access to lunch programs or breakfast programs through the school. There’s a larger need this time of year. This is a way for us to meet that gap,” Vice President of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 63, George Walsh said.
This food drive is crucial in providing much-needed assistance to our local food pantries. Last year was a success with 51,000 pounds of collected food to give back to the community.
“All the food will stay here locally. Right now, we have about 13 food pantries and four hot meal programs within Muskingum County. All that food stays here locally,” Walsh said.
