Putnam Shelter House Opens Doors For First Ever Christmas Dinner
The Putnam Shelter House provided a hot meal to homeless members of our community this Christmas Day.
It is the first ever meal in efforts to raise awareness about the shelter. The estimated 65 people who attended were served a traditional Christmas meal. Pastor of New Community Church, Gary Butler said it took a community to make the giving happen.
"We’ve had several volunteers. There have been six different churches that are represented here. We’ve had monitory as well as food donations given. People gave and raised money for the items that went into the gift bags. So probably about 50 to 60 people have been involved in making this event happen."
The Putnam Shelter House is a non-ID emergency shelter which will house about 24 individuals. Reverend Joy French, Pastor at First United Methodist Church explained a little bit more about the day.
"It’s been great to be here today. We’ve had a lot of volunteers come out and everyone that we have served has been so appreciative of everything they’ve received. It’s just a great sense of community and fellowship and everyone is walking away feeling blessed."
Guests who attended the holiday meal also received a special Christmas gift as a way of saying God Bless you, and to show that the church and shelter care about them.
