“My Last Breath” Premier

A Zanesville native is scheduled to premier his award-winning documentary.

Filmmaker, Cy Dodson, began his first documentary after coming across Josh LaRue’s book, "My Last Breath." 40 year old LaRue suffered a severe asthma attack when he was 17, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury, leaving him incapacitated and unable to communicate.

"It was kind of complicated because the subject of the documentary can’t really communicate that well, and so telling the story, I had to really rely on the book and sort of bring the book to life in order to tell his story. So, I mean that was probably the most difficult part of it, getting all the elements down in a way that still was interesting. I was able to give josh a voice in the documentary."

Dodson’s film has been screened at two film festivals, winning awards at both.

"We just screened the film at the Twin Cities Film Fest and it was our second screening. We just did one, another regional small Film Fest in August and then we just had the Twin Cities Film Fest in September and it got runner up for best short and audience choice awards. So, two runner-ups, that’s not bad for a debut."

The film will premier tomorrow at the Weasel Boy Brewery in Zanesville. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the screening is at 7 with questions and answers following the film.
