Dresden Melon Festival marks it’s 17th year

Melon Festival

DRESDEN, OH- The 17th Annual Dresden Melon Festival took place today at Dresden River Park to celebrate the town’s rich history of melon cultivation.

The festival features events such as a fishing tournament, a melon derby, a 5K and 10K race, live music, corn hole, kids games, and food vendors.

“My parents have been part of it for 17 years and our mayor had ran it for 15 years and he just passed the torch on, so yes I’ve been coming for a long time and that was the reason that I made the decision that I would take it over because it’s one of my favorite festivals to come to,” said Dresden Melon Festival Chair Person, Mellisa Stanford.

The festival helps to raise money for the nonprofit organization, Friends of the Dresden Parks, who take care of all of the parks in the area. This year they’ve also planted over 800 plants in the area in efforts to take care of the local environment.

“This is our only fundraiser for the Friends of the Dresden Parks, so that’s what this is for, it’s the only one that we do so we just hope that people will keep coming out and supporting,” said Stanford.

The Dresden Melon Festival is always the first Saturday in August. For more information about the festival and next year’s event you can visit DresdenMelonFestival.com.
