Turning 100 Together

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Many changes take place in 100 years and some people set the example for others to follow through the constantly evolving times.

One such trailblazer is 100-year-old, Muskingum County resident Denny Taylor, who has spent the majority of his life recognizing the good parts of adversity and influencing others with his positivity. Taylor was a fixture here at WHIZ throughout the 1950s.

“I started, actually, on radio. I started in 1948,” Taylor said. “On TV, I opened the TV station in ‘53. I had my own show in ‘53 for 10 years. Right in this studio, right here. Five-nights-a-week.”

Aside from being a country music performer and broadcasting, Taylor proudly served his country during World War II, owned a local record store, and has made friends with countless people, including some of the biggest legends in country music.

“I just want people to remember me as the ole boy with the big smile,” Taylor said. “I would say if it’s possible, do what you want to do. If you want to work at something, enjoy what you’re working at. It helps.”

Taylor is being recognized on his 100th birthday, for playing an instrumental role in WHIZ’s 100th anniversary.
