Columbus Symphony Orchestra to Perform at the Secrest

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Classical music may not be everyone’s favorite form of art but witnessing it being performed live just might change your tune.

That opportunity is coming this weekend when the 48 piece Columbus Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Secrest Auditorium.

“The first half is the Beethoven’s Symphony Number 6. It’s sometimes called the Pastoral Symphony. And it actually kind of tells a story. So there’s five movements. It’s one that people may have heard the Pastoral Symphony before. It was also in Disney’s Fantasia, there are little snippets of it in one of the Simpsons episodes, so it’s one that we hear in a lot of different areas. But we’re just thrilled to hear the entire five movements of the symphony,” Zanesville Concert Association President Sheryl Wise said.

The concert will take place 3 p.m. Sunday, November 3rd, and will feature two pieces separated by an intermission. The second half will feature a piano performance by Maxim Lando.

“The second part I’m really excited about. It’s Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto Number 2. And we will have a soloist who is 21-years-old, believe it or not, a rising star. And so he’ll be performing a three movement work with the symphony and it should be a great treat to see this young man in his beginning of his music career,” Zanesville Concert Association Booking Agent Jim McLaughlin said.

Sunday’s concert is part of the Zanesville Concert Association’s 85th season and season tickets are encouraged and can be purchased online or at the event.
