River View is Headed to the Boys Soccer Final Four

THE PLAINS, OH

We’re down to the elite eight in the high school boys soccer field, and maybe no better team to represent the MVL than the River View Black Bears.. Eyeing a spot in the Division IV state semifinals, but first having to go through Wheelersburg to complete Region 15.

That’s what they’re playing for in the regional final, as he was looking to become the first team in program history to reach the final four. And it was a Black Bears barrage in the first half! A little over 15 minutes in, Hayden Walters with the turn, Parker Andrews gets the final touch and it’s a 1-0 River View lead.

It only took another minute and change for River View to get its second. Cael Summers with a right-footed finish. Black Bears were flying at Joe Burrow Stadium.

And how about a third? This time it’s Andrews sliding it through for Walters, who somehow squeezes it in from the tightest of angles. And when it was all said and done, River View makes history, finishing off Wheelersburg, 4-2. The Black Bears are headed to the final four for the first time in boys soccer history, after a surreal regional final victory.

“This game was huge for us. This is our fourth time in the regional finals as a program, and nobody’s ever been successful coming out” said senior midfielder Cael Summers.

“So this has been our goal from the time we were three years old when we first started. This has been our goal, and to finally succeed, it means everything to our team. It was surreal. I was so, so surprised, so impressed, and I don’t know, I just…I can’t explain the moment, it’s so exciting.”

“To know that, you know, we got to get to a place where we’ve tried so hard for many years. I mean, look, back in the history of our program, we made it to the regionals many times, and there’s just one. It’s not just for the team, it’s for our community. It’s for our district. It’s for our MVL brothers that have battled us all the way through. We couldn’t have done that without anybody” added head coach Vince Andrews.

“It means everything right now. I know we still got a bigger plan, but we had to beat these guys before we can go to the next one, and we’re hoping to go all the way this year.”
