City of Zanesville Celebrates Arbor Day

ZANESVILLE, OH – The City of Zanesville recently celebrated Arbor Day by planting a new tree.
The Thundercloud Plum tree, coming all the way from Georgia, was planted at Confluence Park.
Members of Zanesville Shade Tree Commission present to accept a proclamation from Mayor Don Mason for maintaining Zanesville as a Tree City USA for 28 years.
Alexis Buchanan, the Associate Planner with Community Development, says there isn’t much to look at now but next spring the tree will have beautiful flowers in full bloom.
“We just thought it would make a good addition to this park.” Buchanan said. “We are putting a lot of work into revitalizing this year, so it’s just a nice addition to our plan.”
Buchanan says there are many benefits to planting a tree of your own.
She says trees help out the soil, the water, and air around them.
She also says they can help to cut down on some energy costs in the warmer months from the shade they provide.
“It’s always nice to give back, planting a tree and doing something for the earth always benefits our generation and the generations to come.” Buchanan said. “Just doing your part in being proactive in our environment is honestly the best thing you can do.”
Plans are already in the works for next year’s Arbor Day Celebration.
