Meet Bumper: This Week’s Dog of the Week

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Bumper, a 6-month-old beagle mix, is one tough puppy at the Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center. Bumper got his name when he was bumped by a car moments before adoption center volunteers came to rescue him.
Despite Bumper’s rough start, his run-in with the car does not seem to have put a damper on this bright-eyed puppy’s fun-loving spirit.
“He took a chance, crossed the street, and got hit by a car. I happened to be close by when it happened and was able to rescue him and get a hold of the dog warden who was able to come and get him and bring him to our facility. He was just bumped so that was a good thing about it,” Doug McQuaid, Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center volunteer, said.
Bumper has not been at the adoption center for long, but he has already shown that he loves to learn new tricks, go for walks, cuddle and give lots of kisses. Bumper is updated on all vaccines and preventatives, so he is ready to be adopted. While Bumper loves people and children, he does not seem to be friendly with other animals. But since he is so young, this behavior could likely change with proper training.
“Bumper has a lot of good things going for him. With a little bit of time and effort, with the knowledge of what he tries to do as a young pup, he could probably learn to do anything. We’ve already found out he sits for the treats, he’s learning how to shake, he walks well, there’s so many good things about him. I just feel like he would just make a great dog for maybe someone that has no pets right now but is looking to possibly adopt a dog,” McQuaid said.
