Local Artist Wins Award at First Friday

Friday local artists displayed their works to the community at the First Friday art walk downtown.

One special artist received an award for his contribution to the art world. Michael Seiler has been practicing his craft in Zanesville for years and says the motivation for his work comes from everyday life.

“I’m really dealing with the aspects of our lives and often times that’s suffering and difficulty,” said Seiler. “And then looking for the grace and ability to live through it. So my works are about difficulties but also at the same time I’m hoping to make them as beautiful as possible.”

Lori Taylor presented the award given from the Ohio Arts Education Association East Region to Seiler in his gallery on Seventh Avenue. Taylor said that the award is given to those whose overall body of work affects the art community in a positive way. Taylor went on to add that Seiler is a model for art educators.

“We nominate people that we think are deserving of distinguished citizens for the arts that promote the arts and art education,” said Taylor. “Mike lets us come on field trips, talks with students, so it’s a joy that he shares with us and we appreciate him letting us come.”
