Zanesville City Council to Vote on Dog Park

At Monday’s Zanesville City Council meeting the most discussed article on the agenda was a proposed dog park. The potential dog park would occupy three acres in Riverside Park.

Councilwoman Sandy Gentry was the one who proposed the idea for the dog park and said it would make a nice addition to Zanesville.

“Some people say you’re wasting your time on a dog park but people love their animals,” said Gentry. And if you want people to come back to our city and work here these are the things that they like. Everyone lives in different sections of town and there are sections of people that are so interested in getting this park.”

Councilwoman Gentry said that city budgeted $20,000 for construction of the park and the rest would be raised from private funds. Some citizens expressed concerns that a dog park may be dangerous but Gentry says that park goers have nothing to fear.

“They have rules in dog parks that you follow so hopefully people abide by those rules,” said Gentry. So if you have a dog that doesn’t get along with other dogs you will have to leave.”

Gentry hopes that construction on the park will start this summer. City Council will take a final vote on the dog park at their next meeting on May 23.
