Wayne Clark Inducted Into Coaches Hall Of Fame
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – WHIZ was honored to speak to one of the first-ever Hall of Famers inducted into the United States Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame.
Zanesville resident, Army Veteran, and East District Hall of Famer Wayne Clark was one of the first coaches ever inducted into the U.S. Coaches Hall of Fame in Dallas, Texas, at the national convention. With 30 years of coaching under his belt and once a coach here in the local area for the Zanesville Blue Devils, where he led the Blue Devils to 22 league district championships and 16 more in cross country, along with coaching greats like John Thomas. Clark is at the mountaintop for his great career, and even after all the accomplishments, he still never imagined this would ever happen.
“Initially, I thought, man, how great am I? And then you start realizing that this long journey through life of coaching and coaching education, and how many people that influenced that life. I mean, from my elementary teachers to my junior high coaches to my high school coaches to my family to the kids I coached, to the assistant coaches, to the family, you know?” said Clark, “So along the way, if you have anything good happen in your life, you’ve had other people that were contributors to that, and you’re so fortunate that there’s not all of you that, this award’s not for just me. It’s for anyone that’s been a part of my life.”
