Brent Moore

Brent Moore

Brent E. Moore, age 68, of Newark, near Zanesville departed this world on May 7, 2026, surrounded by his family after a life long battle with health problems.

Brent was born on October 11, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas Moore and Carrie (Hinkle) Moore.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents, and oldest sister and brother in law, Karen Lynette (William) Wayne.

Surviving is his spouse of 30 years, Robin D. (Branstetter) Moore whom he married on May 11, 1996. A daughter, Heather (Alex) Smith of Hanover, and son Brent (Diane) Moore, Jr. of Zanesville, step children Michael (Karen) Wickham of Philo, Brandi (Chad) Butler of Thornville, and Kylie (Michael) McGinnis of Zanesville. He was blessed with Grandchildren; Tyler (Katie), Ethan and Delaney Wickham, Tyler, Jayden and Ma-Riley Butler, Jaimeson Smith, Devin (Chloe) Melvin, Clayton (Lucky), Justin (Hailey) and Brandon (Emma) Moore, and 8 Great grandchildren.

He was a 1975 graduate of Crooksville High School and enlisted in the U. S. Army shortly after. He was primarily stationed to the 92nd Combat Engineer Battalion as a heavy truck driver and occasional heavy equipment operator at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, but worked with the Corp of Engineers in South Carolina and Florida. During his military career he was commended for his participation in Operation Snow Blow and Snow Blow II as a team member assigned to emergency snow removal in the northeast following several days near blizzard conditions that crippled much of the New England area. He achieved the rank of Specialist 4 and was honorably discharged in 1978 due to medical conditions. Brent was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and frequently attended events at the American Legion.

Brent worked several jobs following the military. He left Crooksville and attended Hocking College where he received an Associate Degree in Accounting technology. He finished his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Park University while working as a Federal Auditor at Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Columbus. His last 14 years were in financial systems as a program coordinator where he assisted in developing an MS Access database into a web-based system owned by the US Air Force used by USAF and civilian personnel world-wide and eventually migrated that program into a Department of Defense (DoD) system used by the entire Department. He retired from federal service after 30 years featuring a stellar career full of accomplishments. In the words of his last supervisor, “Our history and success as an Agency can be directly traced back to many of Mr. Moore’s accolades and accomplishments, and for that the DoD and DFAS are forever grateful.” He seldom backed down from a challenge, health permitting, to get things done. He was very humble throughout his life, frequently just ignoring major accomplishments as “just doing my job”.

Brent loved the outdoors in his younger years, especially small game and deer hunting, ice fishing, and took great pride in maintaining his yard. His “me time” was listening to music while spending hours mowing. He loved being neighborly, often volunteering to remove snow on his side by side or 4 wheeler from driveways throughout the neighborhood. But by far, his love for coaching softball and baseball stands out the most and is something he never gave up as he frequently offered advice and tips as a spectator. We cannot remember Brent without mentioning the special relationship he had with Clayton. From the very beginning, Brent and Clay could be seen with ball in hand. Through his teen years, Brent coached and mentored Clay in baseball, a little football and basketball. They shared a love for cars, frequently going to cruise ins and shows.

In addition to his outdoor activities, he also enjoyed collecting hot wheels and building Lego sets. He was a huge Buckeye and Browns fan but enjoyed any Ohio team and watching former Buckeyes play on Sunday. Camping and taking the family out on his boat was high on his list. He was an avid genealogist researching family history for more than forty years and traced his roots back to the earliest days of Crooksville and Perry County. Words cannot describe how proud he was to be his father’s son and to have such a loving and supporting family.

Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 3-7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM, where Brent will be eulogized by his family in loving remembrance. Following funeral services, Brent will be cremated. Funeral honors will be rendered by the United States Army in conjunction with the local VFW and American Legions at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
