MCCF Awarded Grant from Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to support Civics Education

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local Foundation has been awarded a grant from the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to help further civics education in our area.
The Muskingum County Community Foundation recently received a grant from the FAO to support and advance civics education for Muskingum County Students.
Tiana Young, the Advisor for the Community Youth Foundation, says this grant will help to launch MCCF’s Lead Local program, which is a year-long education program designed to empower youth in our area with knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for active civic engagement.
“The funds are going to go towards helping to roll out our curriculum program that we’re going to be working with with the Community Youth Foundation.” Young said. “Which we already have in place but we’re really going to work towards getting them some more information and things like that as far as what goes on in their community.”
The FAO’s Civics Education Fund helps to support projects and programs that help K-12 students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and engaged community members.
Young says it’s wonderful to receive this grant and means they are able to expand this program for students interested in making a difference.
“It’s amazing for me, I came from Zanesville, I lived in Zanesville my whole life.” Young said. “I was one of the students that kind of went through things like this so, to see that they can get this head start on knowing how these things work, is really great.”
If you are interested in signing up for the Lead Local Program, applications will open up in September and you can head to MCCF’s website for more information.
