Salvation Army needs more turkeys

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local non-profit soup kitchen is in need of food and volunteers for their annual Thanksgiving meal.

The Zanesville Salvation Army has asked the community for Turkeys to be donated in. According to Bill Gheen who is a volunteer for the Salvation Army they currently only have about four turkeys and need at least 60 for their Thanksgiving meal.

“We’re just pleading out there to see if we can get some Turkeys, that people may be able to donate to us for the dinner,” Gheen said. “We are asking people to come and help serve it and also help prepare it, by tearing turkeys off the bones and cutting pies.”

Gheen explained it takes between 20 to 40 people to prepare the meal. The Thanksgiving dinner is on November 22, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

“We had served 974 [people] last year at the dinner and then we also did home deliveries to elderly people,” Gheen said. “They can call into The Salvation Army.”

To donate food for the Thanksgiving meal or to volunteer call the Salvation Army main line, (740) 452-8350.
