Adopt A Park
With the tight Zanesville city budget, a group of residents wants to make sure the city parks are kept up.
Around thirty people gathered at the Brighton Presbyterian Church for a topic session on adopting a park.
"We read that January 19th letter to the editor, regarding the cut backs on the city budget and how can the people of Zanesville help the city to maintain their parks, keep the parks not only safe and clean, but beautiful and encourage their use," tells Cheryl Ann Sebring.
Sebring says the group came together to discuss how the church could play a role in helping the parks. Such as taking a week each month and cleaning a park. Sebring says the community will miss the parks if they disappear.
"They are important to build community to give you a sense of neighborhood, city parks help children to socialize to learn how to play together well or not well and it is a place for families to spend time and enjoy the outdoors," tells Sebring.
Sebring also proposed the church could begin adopting a tree. The idea is the church could find places to plant trees in their area and encourage neighbors to do the same.
