ZANESVILLE, OH – The Carr Center has been a fixture of the Zanesville community since 1956, serving children and those with disabilities through programs like Kinder Camp, Safety Town, Adult Day Health Services, and Speech Therapy.

On Wednesday, members of the Zanesville High School football team braved the heat to help update the play yard at the Carr Center.

Katie Graham, the Executive Director, says they’ve been planning this project for a little bit now for the toddler enrichment and speech therapy kids, but just didn’t have the hands to get it done.

She says they put out a call to the Head Coach and the team showed up ready to work.

“It means a lot, this is a foundation of service for the rest of your life, you know.” Graham said. “Giving back to the community that you live in, I think is incredibly important and it starts at a young age, they’ll learn that really quickly.”

Graham says the top layer of soil and dirt was removed for the eventual placement of Astro-turf as well as a few new playsets for the children.

Evan Woerner, an incoming Senior at Zanesville, says he and his team wanted to help improve the community and thought this was a really great cause to help, especially with the heat.

“Just to help improve the community.” Woerner said. “You know, the community provides a lot for our football team, so as much as we can give back is perfect.”

The guys worked hard and here soon the play yard will be ready for the kids at the Carr Center with some highly anticipated upgrades. For more information on programs or events, you can head to the Carr Center’s website.
