Over 19 Thousand Deer Harvested on First Day of Gun Season

Ohio hunters checked 19,359 White-Tailed Deer during the opening day of gun hunting season on Monday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

This year’s opening day harvest total includes 7,676 antlered deer and 11,683 antlerless deer, a category which includes does and button bucks.

In 2022 hunters took 17,197 deer on opening day of the gun season.

Several counties in our area were among the top 10 for deer harvest on opening day. Coshocton was number 1 with 858 deer, Muskingum at 3rd with 630 deer, Guernsey at number 7 with 537 deer and Licking County at number 10 with 437 deer.

Ohio’s seven-day gun season is open until Sunday, December 3 and a two day gun season is open on December 16-17.
