Meet Binx! This Week’s Animal Shelter Society Pet of the Week
ZANESVILLE, OH – This Week’s Animal Shelter Society’s Pet of the Week doesn’t act his age.
Meet Binx! He is an 8-year-old corgi mix, who’s neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and is ready to run into his forever family’s arms.
Rebecca Hunt, the Animal Care Manager at the Animal Shelter, said even though Binx is 8, he still acts like a puppy because of his energy level.
“He loves to run, he loves to play, and he’s very fast,” Hunt said. “He does a lot of barking, barking when he’s left alone, he really wants to be a lap dog. So I think he would make a wonderful home for maybe someone that’s retired, that is home and can be with him, so he can jump up on that couch and be a little couch potato with you.”
Hunt also said with the weather warming up, it’s time to start checking your furry friend for fleas and ticks.
She explained the life cycle of a flea, how many eggs they can lay in a day, and how long it could take to get rid of them.
“The average life cycle is [about] 30 days for a flea and they can lay 40 eggs a day,” Hunt said. “It takes about 2 to 3 weeks for those eggs to hatch and become an adult again. So you’re talking 600 to 900 eggs a month, it’s pretty gross so just think about that they’re not only on your pets.”
Hunt recommends getting in touch with your vet to discuss flea and tick prevention medications if you suspect your pet may have fleas.
