ZHDC Launches New Homebuying Program
ZANESVILLE, OH – A local non-profit organization just launched a new housing program for first time homebuyers.
The Zanesville Housing Development Corporation recently started to give the residents of Greenwood Homes a chance to purchase the property they have been living in, for a fraction of the cost.
Steve Randles, the President of the ZHDC, explained how this program came to be here in our area.
“Greenwood Homes was conceived and first built by Zanesville Housing Development Corporation and a number of community partners as affordable, tax-credit housing for folks in the community,” Randles said. “The construction phase was 2002-2004 and so as we’ve gotten beyond the initial 15-year tax credit compliance period, there was this opportunity then to market these homes to the folks that have been living and renting them, sometimes for years.”
The ZHDC is happy to announce that 2 of 23 their homes have already been sold through this program.
Randles says this program is great for our area because it can help to change people’s lives.
“When this was first conceived and executed, the idea was to improve the physical appearance of one of the gateways to our community, from the east side,” Randles said. “It made a difference in that neighborhood and continues to do so because those homes, they’ve been maintained and as these folks have the opportunities to become homeowners, I think there’s that much more impetus for that to continue.”
Only residents of Greenwood Homes are eligible for this program.
