Drug Take Back Day 2026

ZANESVILLE, OH – It’s time to freshen up your medicine cabinets and get rid of any old or unused prescription medications.
Muskingum County will be hosting Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24th, from 10 AM until 2PM, with two drop off locations, one at the Health Department and the other at the Riesbecks on June Parkway.
Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, says this is a great partnership between local organizations to keep people safe and these medications off the street.
“The Muskingum County Health Department, there is some construction going on downtown but it still is there.” Lutz said. “We’ll be there from 10 to 2 and at that site we take just about anything prescription wise that somebody has had so any prescription pills, we also will take liquids, and we also take sharps and that’s one of the few places that does all that and so that’s our main location.”
Sheriff Lutz says the Riesbecks location will only be accepting old pill prescriptions but if you need to drop anything off there is a 24/7 drug drop off location in the Muskingum County Jail.
He says the goal of hosting this day is to destroy these old medications that were once used to help someone instead of them falling into the wrong hands
“Old prescriptions, unused prescriptions, can be valuable to the right person.” Lutz explained, “And so keeping them around, in your home, in your car, sets you up to be a target for somebody that is either; has a substance use disorder or more, more importantly, is trying to take that, maybe sell it and get money for it.”
