WHIZ’s Military Salute Honors Mike Watts

ZANESVILLE, OH – We continue our Military Salute by honoring Mike Watts.
Watts served with the US Marine Corps from 1986 until 1991. He began boot camp in Paris Island, South Carolina and from there he traveled all over to Korea, Japan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and even spent 9 months in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War.
“[This] was just something I always wanted to do when I was growing up.” Watts said. “I thought that it was a good thing to do, to defend your country and serve your people.”
Watts even missed the birth of his first child because he was serving in Desert Storm.
Following coming home, he has served as the Commander of VFW Post 29 here in Zanesville four times over the past 14 years and even worked to host the Veteran’s dinner as well as establish the Suds and Studs for Habitat for Humanity.
His flag was presented by Dutro Ford, Lincoln, and Nissan with the flag being made by the Annin Flag Company in Coshocton.
“This means a lot, as a veteran, you know I represent all veterans of Muskingum County and it’s great to be recognized.” Watts said. “That people care about our veterans and want to take care of us and recognize us for what we do for this country.”
Stay tuned as we have a few more Military Salutes leading up to Veteran’s Day on November 11th.
