Muskingum County Arts Council is bringing two events with two ways to experience the arts in September
Zanesville, OH- The Muskingum County Arts Council is bringing two very different experiences to the community this month, from spoken word poetry to a free movement program designed specifically for children with developmental disabilities.
The first event is “An Evening with Black Atticus,” featuring the renowned former Poet Laureate from Knoxville. The live spoken word performance is set for September 12 at 7 p.m. at Weasel Boy Brewing. Attendees can choose general admission and pay what they can, or purchase VIP tickets for reserved seating and a chance to meet Black Atticus after the show.
“I’m super excited about it, he’s not just a poet like all other poets, I’m a poet myself, I really really appreciate what he does, he’s about community resilience, he writes about and talks about social justice, Appalachian culture and Appalachian region issues…it’s a regional poet who comes to maybe give us a different perspective,” said Muskingum County Arts Council Executive Director, Joshua Prentice.
Then on , the Arts Council will host “Movement of Wind and Water” at Movement on Main. The free event begins at 6 p.m. and is designed for children ages 6 to 12 with developmental disabilities. Prentice says creating opportunities like this is something that hits close to home.
“I have an adult son who has a developmental disability, he has high functioning autism, and one of the things that was always hard for him growing up was finding events that would cater to children with developmental disabilities, so that’s something very important to me personally,” said Prentice.
